Server Migration - Buckley (Completed)

Buckley has been scheduled to be migrated to better hardware on Wednesday 3 May 2017.

The exact time of the switch over cannot be confirmed until more of the data has been moved across, but it will happen sometime around 11.00am.

On the run up to this migration there will be some disruption to services (mail, FTP, MySQL) but we will attempt to keep these to a minimum. However some disruption is needed in order to maintain data integrity while the changeover happens.

We will update this announcement when the migration is happening, and when it is complete.

Update 1 (11.25am)
Migration work is in progress.

Update 2 (2.00pm)
Migration completed and server re-booted.

PHP Upgrade (Completed)

To safeguard the security of our servers, on Wednesday 27th July 2016 we will be upgrading the primary version of PHP installed from 5.5 to 5.6.

There are very few incompatibilities between the versions but the change may have an adverse affect on some scripts/programs. You can find full details of the incompatibilities and changes on the PHP Net website

Following the upgrade you will continue to be able to force your site to run under an older version of PHP. But this is only intended to be a short-term fix whilst you update any scripts to ensure their compatibility with version 5.6. These older versions of PHP will eventually be removed, and quite possibly at very short notice if a major security flaw is discovered in an older version.

Network access issues (Resolved)

We are currently experiencing intermittent network access issues, and as a result some servers may not be accessible from some locations. We are currently investigating the cause of this and working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

The situation is now under control and network access has been stabilized. The earlier issues appear to have been caused by DDoS attack on a neighbouring network at the datacentre.

PHP Upgrade (Completed)

The primary installation of PHP installed on all our servers has now been upgrade to version 5.5 or 5.6. For the time being it is still possible to force a directory or an entire website to use PHP 5.4 as this remains available as a secondary installation.

But as version 5.4 reached end-of-life (EOL) status over 6 months ago, this can only be considered a short term fix for script incompatibilities with version 5.5.

At some stage in the not too distant future, Version 5.4 will be removed from our servers, and possibly at very short notice if a major security flaw is discovered in that version. Clients are therefore advised to update and test any incompatible scripts now whilst both version of PHP are still available, rather than get caught out at some future date.
